Responses of European beech (Fagus sylvatica, L.) to drought

European beech is likely one of the hottest broad-leaves species in Central Europe, and has a necessary position of economics and ecology. This research tried to discover responses of this species to drought. Anatomical, physiological and molecular responses have been studied with a purpose to perceive the mechanism by which this species copes with water deficiency. The outcomes of this analysis confirmed that beech (mature and younger bushes) confirmed totally different methods to take care of low precipitation and drought stress: (1) Beech from dry website exhibited a drought avoidance technique: Anatomical adjustments, leaf space, closed leaf stoma (δ13C‰ signatures), fast stomatal closure, upkeep of upper leaf RWC and Ψ, (2) Beech from moist website confirmed a drought avoidance technique: gradual decline in stomatal conductance, stronger lower of Ψ, greater REL, greater expression ranges of ABA- and stress-related genes. The drought tolerant kind of beech was higher endowed to deal with extreme drought.
